Sakura rushed over to Naruto when she heard a scream. She saw a blood-covered Hinata lying near death on the ground. Behind her was a shocked Naruto, a spike pinning his hands to the ground. Sakura’s eyes widened in shock at her hurt friends. From the corner of her eye she saw Ino and a few other unoccupied medics rushing to the scene. The ground shook beneath her as Pein blew another section of the Fire Country to bits.
“Ino,” she hurriedly called out to her friend, “heal Hinata, I’ll help Naruto.” The already out of breath blonde quickly nodded her head in response. Sakura dashed over to her fallen team mate and carefully pulled out the stake the trapped him.
“Naruto…” Sakura trailed off, she couldn’t think of what to say to her friend. She was so worried that he wouldn’t make it in time, or that all his hard work wouldn’t be enough.
“Sakura… I’m sorry… I know I promised, but I’m afraid I might not be able to bring back Sasuke.” Confusion played across Sakura’s face. ‘How could he be thinking of that promise in a time like this?’ Sakura thought. ‘Why would he think that was…’ Her thoughts were cut off as Naruto lifted his bloodied hand and touched her cheek. Sakura could feel her face heat up and her heart beat faster.
“Sakura-chan… just before Hinata attacked Pein she told me she loved me. I was confused at first but now I understand why she did it,” Naruto said as he slowly brought his face toward Sakura’s. Sakura didn’t know what to do or think as Naruto’s lips gently touched hers. It was light and brief, but still loving and passionate. “Sakura-chan,” he continued, “I love you, and I always have. I wanted to see you happy, and if that meant bringing Sasuke back then I would have, but I don’t think I can anymore.” Sakura’s chest started to hurt more and more with every word Naruto spoke. Sakura couldn’t take it anymore and so she looked down at her hands that were folded in her lap. They were the most interesting thing to look at right now, but Naruto wouldn’t have it. He lifted her chin so their eyes met once more. Giving her a small, caring smile, he continued.
“Take care of yourself Sakura-chan. Your strong, I know you can handle it.” With that he kissed her forehead and stood up. Sakura was frozen, kneeling on the ground. She wanted to say something, anything, to him. But instead she just stared at him as he jumped away to fight Pein.
‘Why would he do that, now of all times? He could have just waited until his killed Pein and everything was calmer.’ Sakura let out a small gasp as realization settled over her. He had to confess now, because he didn’t plan on ever seeing her again. He didn’t think he would survive his battle with Pein. Tears stung her eyes and she realized she might never see Naruto again. She doubled over in pain and clutched her aching chest. Heartache had never felt this bad, not even when Sasuke left. She fell over on her side when another of Pein’s- or Naruto’s, she couldn’t tell- attacks shook the earth.
Slowly she got up and ran as fast as she could to where Naruto’s chakara was. ‘I won’t make it,’ she thought helplessly. She was too exhausted to sprint, and too wounded to move any faster than a slow jog. At long last Sakura reached the spot where Pein and Naruto had fought. It was over now. Pein’s body lay dead at the teen’s feet. Her chest felt a little lighter at the thought of being with Naruto longer, but that feeling wouldn't last long once she knew what she was about to witness.
Naruto picked up one of Pein’s many swords. Quietly and to himself, he spoke his last words. “This world will never be able to live in peace as long as the demons live on. At least I can kill one of those bastards.” Naruto felt the demon fox bash his large body against the cage which trapped him, screaming and cussing at the poor boy. ‘I just wished I’d became Hokage, and brought back Sasuke-teme for Sakura-chan.’ Slowly, Naruto aimed the sword at his chest.
She had to scream, yell, plead, anything to stop him from what he was planning to do. She couldn’t let him kill himself! They needed him, the village needed him. She needed him! She knew she had to do something, but she couldn’t. So many words that she wanted to say, to scream! But they were locked on her tongue. Her limbs frozen in fear and exhaustion, she was helpless and hopeless.
He drove the sharp blade straight through his heart. The sword went through him as if he were paper. He coughed blood as he fell to his knees and rolled onto his back. He couldn’t think; the pain was excruciating. His vision blurred as he saw Sakura rushing over to his fallen body. She lifted his bleeding chest off the ground and onto her lap, cradling his head. Her green chakara flickered as she desperately tried to heal him.
Her tears fell on his face as she hugged his body closer to hers. His once warm skin was slowly growing cold. His tanned skin went pale. “Sakura-chan…” He spoke barely above a whisper. “Please don’t waste your tears on me. Save them for the people who deserve them.” The lump in Sakura’s throat was so large she couldn’t speak. “You know Sakura-chan… your forehead is so pretty, it makes me want to kiss it….” A small, but visible smile fell upon the blonde’s lips as the life slowly left his eyes. Clutching his body she cried harder, screamed louder, for her fallen teammate and friend.
She felt a hand touch her shoulder and try to pull her off Naruto’s body, but she wouldn’t allow. She only hugged him tighter. She softly called his name over and over again. ‘Why did this have to happen? He didn’t have to kill himself why did he do it? I… I loved him’

I had this stuck in my head the whole time I was taking a test. I wrote it up and decided to submit it. I know, sad ending, but we've been reading Romeo and Juliet in english, so im in a tragedy mood. Enjoy and please comment!!!
Oh and by the way spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't read the manga... this is kinda my Narusaku twist on previous chapters.
I don't own Naruto or the characters, Kishimoto does...
